“The lighthouse reinforces the historical significance of a place. What makes it a viable tourist spot primarily is its location. When you imagine a lighthouse, it is situated usually on top of a hill of an island and looks out into the sea,” he shared with The Philippine Star.
With hopes to boost local tourism where the planned lighthouses will be erected, the PCG intends to make designs suited to the locations participating in the project so that they will not fail to draw the interest of local and foreign tourists.
The PCG's Adopt A Lighthouse program was previously aimed to restore and repair the country's 562 lighthouses, most of which were of the Spanish era. This effort proved to have captured the interest of tourists and is contributing to the pleasant tourism scene.
